New European funds loom on the horizon and the black clouds of a VAT raise have dispelled.
After a tough 2014, producers and distributors of medical products have a reason to be satisfied. According to estimations made by the Polmed Medical Products Trade Chamber, in t five years the Polish market – which is already worth over 2 bln USD – should exceed 3 bln USD.
According to the Chamber, despite the very positive prognoses for the sector, we still have a long way to go to catch up with Western Europe, where the expenses for medical products are much higher. While there will not be more public money available, the situation could be improved by additional health insurance (the current government has not managed to introduce them in the last couple of years) or the possibility of the patients partially covering the costs. Not only producers of health products, but the entire health sector as well, is throwing its efforts behind this cause.
— Patients should have the option of co-payment – both when it comes to medical services and medical products. Today, they take either what they get from NFZ or cover the entirety of the costs, which is unfair — says Robert Mołdach, healthcare expert of Employers of Poland.
