“Parkiet”: Climate for business is only good on paper

There is a striking difference between how companies assess the business environment in Poland and how it appears in ranking.

In Autumn 2007, when the PO-PSL was taking over the power, Poland was ranked 74th in the “Doing Business” ranking, ordering countries by how easy it is to conduct business activity there. In the newest edition, we made it to 25th. Despite this radical improvement of business climate, in last week’s elections PO got less votes among entrepreneurs than PiS.

The results of the elections are not the only reason to suspect that the improvement in business environment was not as significant as DB suggests. Every improvement of Poland’s position is commented similar: indeed, it is easier to run a business, but it is still very hard. – One cannot negate the importance of the ranking. At the same time, one can have serious doubts as to the efficiency and attitude towards business of many state institutions – said Andrzej Malinowski, President of Employers of Poland, after the latest results of DB were announced.
