“Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”: Combatting e-betting is a fiction

Politicians declare that they are ready to apply an available measures to combat illegal bookmakers on the internet. Officials join the chorus. However, we never see anything other than declarations.

Experts have no doubts: Polish authorities have restricted capacities for combatting the grey market in betting. However, some tools are available. The problem is that they are not used at all, and the pathologies of the market take increasingly curious forms. Now, the companies which have received the license for betting have less than 10 percent of the market. The rest of the market belongs to companies registered in tax havens who do not pay any public obligations.

– The legal instrument that can have  tangible impact on the combat against illegal gambling is first and foremost the possibility of blocking the IP addresses of foreign bookmakers offering unlicensed services in Poland says Lukasz Czucharski of the Tax Committee of Employers of Poland.
