Billions from the pockets of telecoms, the state and the EU will be spent on internet infrastructure. Will we know how to use it wisely?
Arkadiusz Pączka, Deputy Director General of Employers of Poland, where he is also the Director of the Department of European Funds, emphasized that the DESI index – Poland’s showing in it are very disappointing – can be assessed on many levels. – One can look at it technically, focus on the development of e-administration or on digital exclusion. However, the point is not to advance in rankings and rest on our laurels. At the end of the day it makes little difference whether we are, say, in 17th or 23rd position – said Pączka.
In the coming years, the EU-financed Digital Poland Operational Program will provide us with 10 bln PLN for digitization.
– After the conclusion of the LTE auction, it is now time to build infrastructure – this is a great challenge for operators, who have suffered significant costs. Now, funds have to be used – thus far, the telecommunication sector has fared quite well in this respect, at least compared eg. to railways – said Pączka.
