Are companies that increase employment more patriotic than others? – asks “Rzeczpospolita”.
Monika Gładoch, adviser to the President of Employers of Poland, emphasizes that decision about employment are made based on economic arguments, as jobs created for other reasons prove unstable.
The case of reductions is different – here, other factors – most commonly social – are often taken into consideration. This is particularly likely when unions have a strong position in the company in question and the company or the sector are important enough to warrant political interest. In Poland, one such sector is the mining industry, in the West – large production companies who have to be prepared for political and media interventions a.o. when a decision is made to move production to another country (as was the case with eg. Fiat).
