First convictions for illegal betting have deterred Internet users. Foreign companies are not shutting up shop yet, but the Ministry of Finance his putting serious effort into making their lives harder – informs “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”.
Blocking IP addresses and on-line payment – such measures of combating illegal betting are currently being considered by the Ministry of Finance. This was confirmed at yesterday’s sitting of the sports committee in Sejm by the Deputy Minister of Finance Jacek Kapica. This is practically the first systemic attempt to enforce a law which has formally de-legalized e-gambling, but has been virtually ignored for the last four years.
– The Ministry of Finance should start with an information campaign which would make gamblers who use services which are unregistered in Poland that they are thus exposing themselves to legal responsibility – assesses Łukasz Czucharski of the Tax Committee of Employers of Poland and adds that penalizing players will not solve the problems. – The crux of the matter is to create just conditions for competition. Both the treasury and legal betting service providers would benefit from that – he concludes.
