“Gazeta Wyborcza”: Entrepreneurs work the longest

Company owners work the most hours. If public sector employees wanted to match them, they would have to work six days a week.

Results of the research conducted by GUS are no surprise to Łukasz Kozłowski, expert of Employers of Poland.

– Some public sector entities to not participate directly in market competition. They do not have to fight for clients or use efficiency as a competitive advantage, so there is no risk that their working hours will be longer due to unforeseen circumstances – he said.

Calm and predictability make work in public administration  attractive for  many. Over 440 000 people work there, with little indication that the popularity of the state as an employee is decreasing. – Public sector pays better, working hours are shorter, the job itself is stable. No wonder the competitions for posts in public administration attract so many applications – says Kozłowski. At the same time, he stresses that even now employment in the public sector can be considered excessive.
