The government schoolbook is slowly leaving the stage. Quite recently, it seemed that the position of this free of charge book for the youngest cannot be challenged by anyone. Neither its flaws nor the lack of acceptance on the part of experts and teachers and the idiocies contained therein seemed to matter. Meanwhile, a beacon of hope has appeared in the Ministry of Education – President of Employers of Poland Andrzej Malinowski writes in “Rzeczpospolita”.
– I hope that we finally have minister who listens to what the society says. In any case, the change for the better proposed by the Ministry appears to have a more solid substantive foundation than most solutions spontaneously introduced in the education system by previous governments – he writes.
In one of his earlier columns, Malinowski expressed concern that the schoolbook reform of 2014 would result in a mindless destruction of the educational start of the youngest, the fundamental element of the Economy – Education – Science (GEN), a program elaborated by Employers of Poland. In time, the fuss surrounding the schoolbook died down.
Meanwhile, in late May Minister Anna Zalewska announced a move away from the project of the government schoolbook – partially, as her predecessor had already spent over 60 mln PLN and you cannot just bin it entirely.
– I do not suppose that this decision was informed by my earlier column, but who knows.. However, I do have to say that this is a step in the right direction. Tomes have been written on the detrimental impact of the 2014 schoolbook and the fact that it is published by the Ministry is a farce – Malinowski assesses.
– I would like to remind yet again, and I will continue to do so, that the best investment in economic growth is an investment in early education – concludes the President of Employers of Poland.
