According to Monika Gładoch of Employers of Poland, the fact that we are now dealing with so many labour disputes is a defeat for our law. – Regulations do not restrict their duration. We may be faced with longstanding disagreements which have not been resolved and are now being revived at a politically favourable moment – she says.
Any trade union with at least ten members may enter a labour dispute with the board.
– A single employer may be dealing with more than ten such disagreements at once – adds Gładoch. She is of the opinion that the current abundance of disputes is linked to elections and whether these disagreements result in strikes will be determined by the political climate. – If unions feel favourable winds in their sails, there will be strikes – she says. Particularly in the budget sector and sectors with significant Treasury ownership a lot depends on state policy. – If the government yields to demands in this case, it will have to put out fires all over the country, right until election day – she prognoses.
