The proposal of the Ministry of Justice to seize company assets used in criminal activity may damage companies and destroy competitiveness.
Under the banner of takin assets away from criminals Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro wants to seize not only villas and limousines, but also companies. Compulsory management could be introduced for the duration of the legal proceedings, even when there is only a justifiable suspicion of a crime. The government explains that it only wants to implement the relevant EU directive.
Entrepreneurs worry that Minister Ziobro’s ideas may lead to interference with property rights. Mariusz Korzeb, tax adviser and expert of Employers of Poland says that although entrepreneurs support the combat against pathologies, this idea goes too far. They would rather the state protected companies against adverse effects of the actions of people who have involved a law-abiding committee in unlawful activities.
