An analysis of the legal regulations aimed at combatting business crimes shows that thus far, they hit… law-abiding entrepreneurs and – even more curiously – the state. They have not come into force yet, but they have already undermined trust in its institutions and probably played a part in recent developments regarding our economic growth. Surely, the authors of these solutions did not intend it that way? – President of Employers of Poland Andrzej Malinowski writes in “Rzeczpospolita”.
He points out that after the parliamentary elections much was said about social consultations, growth plans, state development. We took it at face value. Thus far, however, there is no improvement in sight and what is more, it is even getting worse.
– It will be worse still, if such plans from combatting business crimes are adopted. Why? Because, under the new regulations, many of us will by definition become almost criminals in spe. Such is the nature of the package of solutions intended to restrict the grey market. Details? You are welcome: penalties for business crimes are to be drastically increased and assets “obtained in criminal ways” will be confiscated. (…) Does one have to have committed a crime to be considered guilty? No. It is sufficient that our employee our contractor proves to be a criminal. Property law, the basis of all private business activity, is no longer respected – warns the President of Employers of Poland.
– What is the point of this? Cheap populism? Economically, it is a shot in the foot, the knee, or even in the head! We can already see signals of the effects it will bring – a significant drop in GDP compared to earlier plans. Partly because many companies have simply stopped investing. No one in their right mind wants to take risks when the possibility of losing one’s business looms on the horizon. Is this the famed business-friendly climate? The better and simpler law? If so, I would like to cordially refuse the favour and allow myself to play a prophet for a moment: if this goes on, in time only beneficiaries of the 500+ program will be left in our country and there will be no one left to pay the taxes needed to finance the program – summarizes Malinowski.
