More stringent ZUS controls after a record in sick leaves


Polish employees seem to be very sickly. Last year, an average employee spent as many as 16 days on sick leaves. It is no secret that employees abuse sick leaves in order to prolong holidays or to avoid working in times of upheaval – expert of Employers of Poland Łukasz Kozłowski tells “Gazeta Wyborcza”.



ZUS officials refused to believe in Polish employees’ ailing health. Let us remind that ZUS is obliged to pay 80 percent of the wages of an employee on sick leave after the 33 day. When it got around to controlling the leaves, it discovered that one in eight was a fake. As a result, a total of 195 mln PLN in money paid to employees on sick leave was order to be returned or cancelled.
