Recent GUS figures have revealed the lowest level of registered unemployment in 25 years – 8.5 percent at the end of August (compared to 8.4 percent in June 1991). The rate fell by 0.1 percentage point compared to June 2016 and 1.4 percentage points compared to August 2015. At the end of August there were 1 346 900 unemployed, 14 000 less than in July. The condition of the labour market was the best in wielkopolskie (5.2 percent registered unemployment rate), śląskie (6.8 percent) and małopolskie (6.9 percent). Unemployment was highest in warmińsko-mazurskie (13.9 percent).
These statistical figures are reflected in surveys gathering opinions about the situation on the labour market. According to a survey conducted by TNS Polska in September, analyzed in the Entrepreneurs’ GPS project, show that 49 percent of respondents are confident that they can find a job. This indicates an increase of 7.7 percentage points compared to the month before (and the highest value of this index since November 2008, when it was 60 percent – with an unemployment rate of 9.1 percent). However, 46 percent of respondents believe that while it may be quite easy to find a job, it will not necessarily be a job that one would want. Only 3 percent are convinced that one can find a satisfying job without much trouble.
