Legislation Monitoring Centre

Polish government took into account the demands of employers on the question of the tobacco Directive

The government has decided to take a negative stance on the draft Directive on the issue of rapprochement of laws, secondary legislation and administrative regulations of the Member States concerning the manufacture, presentation and sale of tobacco and related products. According to the experts of the Employers of Poland, it is a good decision.

According to the experts of the Employers of Poland, the provisions of the Directive assuming among others the elimination of the so-called slims and mentholated cigarettes may lead to a significant increase in smuggling that last year already reached the level of 14.5% of the overall market and comes to more than PLN 6 billion in amount. Polish economy would suffer most if the Directive came into force.
