Project on prolongation of parenthood leaves will go to the Sejm (Parliament) in the spring

Public consultations about the project of increasing the dimension of parenthood leaves were concluded. As the Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz announced, an amendment to a bill will go to the Sejm (Parliament) in spring.

According to the Employers of Poland, the prolongation of the dimension of the leaves alone will not achieve the main goal of family policy which is to increase the fertility rate. One should also take other initiatives to develop institutional care and disseminate flexible forms of employment. - The idea aiming to enable parents the division of rights with relation to the birth of a child is undoubtedly correct. However, one should take into account both the relatively low take-up of paternal leaves and still dominant traditional model of the family. This means that it can be difficult for both spouses to exercise the right - say the experts of the Employers of Poland.
