In the opinion of Łukasz Kozłowski, an expert of the Employers of Poland, the forecast published by ZUS (Social Security Office) about the revenue and spending of the first pillar of the pension system shows the enormity of the difficulties that Poland will have to contend with in order to maintain solvency of the social security system.
- Even taking into account inflation and the gradual raising of the retirement age for men and women, by 2060 the state budget will have to fund the Fund administered by ZUS with the total amount of about PLN 2.2 billion, which is 137.5 % of the GDP of Poland - says Kozłowski. Every year, a large part of the budget will have to be spent on swamping a hole in ZUS. - Taking into account the fact that most difficulties with the financing of pensions will occur not earlier than in several years, the government's decision to mobilize the Demographic Reserve Fund for the fourth year in a row is at least irrational – says the expert of the Employers of Poland. In his view, these actions result from the short-sighted pursuit to improve the current situation at the expense of the future.
