Last week, the Health Committee of the Sejm (Polish Parliament) approved the draft of the financial plan of the National Health Fund for 2014. The planned budget is about 0.1 % higher than this year’s. According to the Employers of Poland, it is a crisis financial plan.
- For patients the plan means only the confirmation of status quo that has been prevailing for years, and which the Poles are not satisfied with – points out Andrzej Mądrala, the Vice President of the Employers of Poland. He stresses, however, that in recent years, when the financial situation of the NHF was much better, the system was not reformed, and the most-awaited changes improving accessibility to services were not carried out.
It is necessary to introduce additional measures to the system, which is possible by taking bold political decisions. – There is no need to raise the health premium; the base of people paying it can be extended. It is urgent to introduce additional health insurance, reduce the scale of malpractice in the system, but also through better care of the patient, optimize the cost of treatment - says Andrzej Mądrala.
