The retail sales in August rose, year on year, by 3.4 percent, while the average forecast of analysts hovered around 3 percent. In the opinion of Łukasz Kozłowski, an expert of the Employers of Poland, this surprisingly good result proves the constant improvement of the economic situation of Poland.
- Although we have not seen such a significant increase on an annual basis as in the previous month, then one should take notice of among others the relatively high base effect. Achieving the same result in the following months would translate into a much higher annual dynamics of retail sales - says Kozłowski. The expert also added: - A few months ago, the level of consumer demand aroused the greatest concern, and it was a surplus of export over import that was the only growth driver protecting us from falling into recession.
