Outreach program of popularization of influenza prevention among employees can significantly reduce operating costs of a company – that is what the participants admitted in the employers’ debate during the Flu Forum 2013. It took place as part of the National Programme for Influenza Eradication that was taken under the Employers of Poland’s wing.
The direct costs concerning the treatment of influenza, the purchase of drugs, outpatient visits and hospitalizations correspond only to 10-15%. The vast majority (during the season of epidemic even PLN 4.3 billion) are indirect costs, that is the ones incurred in connection with the absenteeism of employees, their long-term incapacity for work and reduced efficiency. Therefore, the managers in Western Europe often include promotion of influenza prevention in a strategy of company internal communication. The illness of a large group of employees constitutes a real threat to the operational activity of a company.
