Legislation Monitoring Centre
In Poland there is neither an internet portal nor an institution for employers responsible for monitoring the legislation process of regulations that determine the rules for business activity. At present employers  learn about changes in the law mainly from mass media or simply through the grapevine, usually with delay.

Will the Chinese build their dreams in Poland?

On November 8th President of the Employers of Poland Andrzej Malinowski met Chanfu Wang – founder and owner of BYD Company Limited. BYD is a brand of electrically powered city buses, which is increasingly popular in Europe. Will these buses become a mainstay of the Polish city landscape?

For many years, the Employers of Poland have intensively promoted Poland as a country where one can do great, mutually beneficial business. The Chinese guest’s visit is one of the effects of these activities.

BYD Company Limited (Build Your Dreams) is a producer of conventionally powered, hybrid and electrically powered vehicles and electrical buses, one of the biggest global suppliers of advanced systems of generating and storing energy, photovoltaic panels, LED lighting, as well as batteries and various other electrical devices. The company’s headquarters is located in Shenzhen, in Guangdong province.

About 1500 BYD buses are currently used in Chinese cities. In Europe, they are used among others in Italy, Netherlands and Scandinavia.

In 2013, the BYD K9 bus was tested by the Municipal Bus Authority in Warsaw, on a prestigious route on the Royal Tract, as well as by municipal bus authorities in Cracow and Tricity. It was met with positive reviews everywhere. Test drivers  have complimented the extremely low noise levels, high travel comfort and particularly lower emission of exhaust gas to the atmosphere.

The cost of electricity needed for a 100 km drive with BYD K9 is 50 PLN, compared to the cost of the same distance on conventional buses, with a fuel consumption of over 40 liters per 100 km, which exceeds 200 PLN. Assuming that a city bus covers a total of 150 km daily, we save nearly 250 PLN per day and up to 80 000 PLN every year. Iron batteries and sun panels on the roof of the bus give it a range of up to 250 km in one charge, with a charging period of 4 to 6 hours.

Poland could be an ideal starting point for BYD’s expansion in all of Europe. Opening a line for production and assembly of electricity powered buses and a logistics centre for BYD products for the Polish and European markets could be an opportunity for growth in Polish automotive industry and Polish economy as a whole.

It should be mentioned that BYD is co-owned by one of the world’s biggest investors – Warren Buffett. The company has already started preparation for opening a factory in United States which will produce electricity powered buses for the North American market.
