European Parliamentary elections are an excellent opportunity for a discussion regarding economic issues and support for Poland’s regional development in the EP. With this in mind, aware of our responsibility for the future of Polish economy, Employers of Poland – the biggest and oldest employer’s organization in our country, associating 10 000 companies with ca. 5 mln employees – organized a countrywide conference series entitled Region – Economy – European Union.
All regional debates had the same formula, but the program was adapted to each region’s specific characteristics.
Employers of Poland were responsible for inviting candidates for members of the European Parliament, taking their competences and engagement in economic issues at a regional, national and European level into consideration. Topics of discussion were be selected after consultation with businessmen and local governments. The debates were moderated by representatives of the EUROREG Centre for European Regional and Local Studies.
The debates will serve as a basis for documents summarizing the challenges for members of European Parliament regarding regional businesses. Recommendations will be pulished in a book, to be presented to members of European Parliament at the closing conference of the project.
We hope that discussions on regional economic issues, led during our Region – Economy – European Union meetings, will have a tangible impact on local communities.
