Golden Fans Gala, during which the winners of Golden Fans 2014 were announced, was held on the International Migrants Day, December 18, at Fort Sokolnickiego in Warsaw. The jury, with among others President of the Employers of Poland Andrzej Malinowski, also decided to give two special awards.
In the category Person the winner is Mr. Abdulcadir Gabeira Farah - President of the Foundation for Somalia, for the promotion of tolerance and intercultural dialogue and activities for the integration of immigrants in civil dialogue.
In the category Institution a Golden Fan was given to the foundation The Other Space – for an initiative Cross-sector policies for migrants (within the project Municipal Integration Policies), which has helped to highlight the importance of local governments and local institutions in shaping situation of migrants, to give foreigners a voice in the debate on integration and to exchange information and experiences among cities.
Two awards went to the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and the Association of Legal Intervention – for contributing to the integration of migrants through their continuing program including: legal advice, support integration projects and educational research.
The audience award was voted online. It was given to Mrs. Karolina Sydow – ethnologist, a PhD student in the Centre for Migration Research at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, for facilitating handling legal issues linked to, inter alia, the legalization of residence, labor market and other aspects of daily life.
The contest "Golden Fans" is organized by the International Organisation for Migration. Its objectives include honouring individuals and institutions that have recently brought a special contribution to promoting the integration of migrants in Poland, stimulating socio-economic development through migration or to building good practices in the field of migration management.
