The General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways is delaying the planned expansion of the truck toll payment system ViaTOLL. Thus, it is depriving the National Road Fund of resources needed for new investments. This is all the more striking, as the state is more and more willing to take money out of drivers’ wallets by drastically increasing fines for driving offences and treating radars as a source of income. According to Employers of Poland, the Directorate should clarify this shocking situation as soon as possible and state how it intends to make up for its own negligence.
The system is working according to plan, but the e-toll has not been expanded to more stretches of express roads and highways. According to guidelines, by 2018 will encompass 7000 km of national roads, highways and express roads. Meanwhile, at the end of 2014 viaTOLL included only 3100 km of roads and the expansion rate is dwindling. In 2013, the system was expanded by 760 km, 260 km last year, with only 250 km planned for this year.
Employers of Poland urge the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development to clarify the causes of the delay in expansion of the viaTOLL system and inform how much money was lost as a result as well as explain how the losses will be made up for.
