The Council of Ministers has passed the draft of the Public Healthcare Act. It is a very important document, eagerly awaited by all involved in healthcare in over 20 years.
In the opinion of Employers of Poland, the draft is not ideal – it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the decisiveness of some solutions (the position of the Healthcare Ombudsman, the Healthcare Council or the Steering Committee of the National Health Program). However, after so many years of waiting, what is most important is that the parliamentary works on the draft are concluded before the election. We hope that it will be immediately presented to Sejm and proceeded swiftly, but with respect for all parties’ interests – including social partners – in the Health Committee.
According to Employers of Poland, passing the act quickly will create an opportunity for a good National Health Program to be elaborated and for the next government to continue improving on act. Tardiness may led to all the already undertaken efforts being wasted and leave the system waiting for years for another draft yet again.
The Public Healthcare Act has to try to deal with upcoming demographic challenges. We need to remember that an increased life expectancy and higher costs of treatment for seniors will be a great test – particularly financially – for the healthcare system.
Employers of Poland will suport the project during the works in Sejm.
